The new Cressi Gara Modular Impulse fins, the ultimate quality fins for free divers and scuba divers alike!
I have been using a pair of Cressi Gara Modular Impulse for the last 2 months and I have to say that they are excellent fins.
Before this model, I was using the Cressi Gara Modular LD, and was super happy with them.
But, my last trip to the eastern pacific was a bit too much for them and ended up a little bit damaged, so when this model came out, I decided to give it a try.
At first I was not sure I would like them, since they have this new blade design which looks thinner, and I thought “weaker”. And in my opinion, made them look a bit too soft.
But I was quite wrong about it, this fins turned out to be pretty awesome and now are my main fins to take on all my diving and freediving trips!
Design:
With an excellent build quality, and the new blade design inserting an angle of 29 degrees, the performance of this fins its really good in all sorts of water conditions.
The addition of Anti-Slip water Rails that prevent water flow from escaping sideways and the “Rondine” tail special design improves the fin control and directionality.
The modular foot pocket offers you the chance to use this fins in summer, with thin neoprene socks, or without any. And with thick sock in winter without having to worry about changing the foot pocket since the soft top will adjust to your foot without being uncomfortable.
They come with a pair of semi-rigid Insoles that you can cut to the desired size and used them when wearing thin socks to provide that perfect fit for you.
If you want to use them without neoprene socks, they recommend to buy a smaller size.
Also the Modular foot pocket design allows you to replace or change blades very easily to match your needs.
Which it might come in handy when you change or travel to another destination and need different blades.
User Experience and Performance:
Though I have mainly used them while scuba diving, I wanted to use them only for free diving, but, since they are so good, I could refrain myself from taking them scuba diving too!
They have been through some rough water conditions, big swell and strong currents. And there wasn’t any problem at all, most importantly, they performed flawlessly.
They were used in a few quite long dives, over 80 minutes, and they felt really comfortable even when wearing them for that long.
I like that they made the blade stiffer than other models, so you can have that extra power if you need it, but not to stiff so your legs get cramped after an hour swim.
Conclusion:
In conclusion the Cressi Gara Modular Impulse are a great piece of equipment that I will be taking with me to my next underwater adventures!
If you need fins that can be fulfill your free diving needs and your scuba diving needs, then this are for you!
The only down site I found is that the blue model gets scratches rather quick, but that’s what happens when you free dive and scuba dive in mainly rocky bottom habitats.
Apart from that, there are no other things that I dislike from this awesome fins.
I totally love them!

Im quite interested in buying a Cressi Gara Modular Impulse, however im not sure if they are a great option for spearfishing , especially considering my weight which is approximately 90kg (198 pounds).
I know they are quite efficient, but I don’t know if I would sacrifice some power considering my weight.

I use them for scuba diving too, that means that I have a lot more water resistance to deal with than when free diving, and I don’t miss any power at all.
Performance is great and I’m sure you would love this fins. With bigger foot pocket comes a slightly longer blade, so if you are a tall person with “big foot”, you will have the power adjusted for it.
As for the weight goes, it all depends on the finning efficiency, and of course the blade.
Impulse Blades are not the stiffest nor the softest, so its a kind of in-between which I very much like, as it give me a lot of power and it doesn’t over exhaust my legs after long hours swims.
But I would definitely give them a try, price is great and performance is top notch.

How can you make a comparison between your old Gara Modular LD and Impulse? Which one is better in your opinion and which fin is softer/stiffer. I am planning to get a fin for freediving with a lot of surface swimming. By the way, my weight is around 70kg.

I like the Impulse better, it is stiffer than the Modular LD and definitely has more power in it, or at least that’s what it feels to me. More comfortable to use during long swims as well.
I am around that same weight and use the 42/43 European foot pocket size, the blade is long enough to give you all the power you need!

I am interesting in this fin, but I have never had a chance to test it. Anyway, how does this fin compare to Cressi Gara Modular LD or SEAC motus? Is it stiffer/softer. Is it better or worse in anyway in your opinion. By the way, I am male, 70kg and normally do recreational freediving with a lot of surface swim.

Haven’t tried the SEAC Motus as the foot pocket doesn’t adapt to my foot shape, so I can not say if its better or not, between the Gara LD and de Impulse I definitely prefer the Impulse, since it is stiffer and it is more comfortable for longer swims, I even use them for scuba diving and have no complaints!

Hi, i’m a French freediver beginner (so please excuse my terrible english writing ^^), and I would to know if theses fins are not too stiff for free diving ? I’ve heard that soft fins are better for beginnners, as the “aim” of freediving is to swim with a minimum of effort.
Have you ever try the C4 surfer blade, an if so, with fins would you advise to me, considering my 80 kg ?
It’s also plastic fins, same price, with the very efficient C4 300 footpocket but requiring socks tu used them.

Hi Pierre, They work really good, not to soft not to stiff, I think for beginners this are a great pair of fins.
I have never tried the C4 blades so I can not compare, I guess you’ll have to decide what’s best for you.

Hi. I’ve been using Gara Modular LD fins for two years. The blades are already heavily worn out, so I am considering replacing them. According to your review I would like to try Gara Impulse blades but I am not sure if Gara Modular Impulse blades wil fit into Gara Modular LD foot pocket? To answer your question, yes they will fit as the foot pocket is exactly the same, the only thing they changed is the shape of the blade but they use the same foot pockets.
You will be surprised how much better this blades are compared to the LD.
I used the LD for a very long time and after trying the Impulse I’m not looking back.
